Planning the space
With the layout, I spent a lot of time thinking about how to make the room feel open without losing function. The walk in shower with minimal, frameless glass highlights the high ceilings and casts your eye up to the beautiful original beams. To fit with the rest of the house, it had to have a traditional cast iron radiator - sourced from Ebay, painstakingly cleaned and painted! The vanity and toilet were also swapped round, so that the view into the ground floor room was much nicer - something my partner didn't get at first but loves it now that is the first thing you see when you enter or are passing the room - it changes the focal point of the space completely.
Blending Vintage Charm with Modern Function
When I started planning this bathroom refit, I knew I wanted to balance warmth with something clean and timeless. I was drawn to the idea of using natural wood to bring in texture and character, so the vanity became a real focal point early on. I introduced a soft pink tile to add a bit of personality, combined with a large format plain grey tile on the bottom half to provide a subtle background. Those gorgeous limestone floor tiles were carried through from the hallway to add flow. I did panic slightly at the pink at first, but the colour ended up giving the space a really modern feel, and combined with unlacquered brass fittings (absolutely gorgeous and will patina over time) - has given the room a real touch of luxe!
